Balance Works operates out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada but coaching services are available online to international therapy business owners. We have had clients in Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Dubai, and Kuwait.

What qualifications do you have?

Carlyn Neek has a BA with a focus on psycholgy as well as a BSc in Occupational Therapy and is registered to practice occupational therapy in the province of Alberta. She is also a certified coach practitioner and has additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Graded Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, the Progressive Goal Attainment and more.

What makes you different from the many OTs who have entered the coaching world?

Practicing OT since 2003 and owning a business since 2007 has equipped Carlyn with many useful experiences that can help other therapy business owners. Her background in mental health as it relates to work performance in the presence of burnout, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and a history of trauma brings a well developed set of skills to address the underlying causes of overwork, perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty initiating, prioritizing, and following through with ideas and intentions. Carlyn has personal experience with all of this and isn't only coming at these solutions from academic learning. Lived experience is highly valuable in transformative coaching.

Are your services covered by my extended health benefits?

Accepted Answer

Possibly. If you are in a Canadian province in which Carlyn can practice virtually, your coaching services can potentially be arranged as an occupational therapy and therefore submitted for reimbursement through your extended health benefits. Most of our clients claim the services as a business expense and use their education and coaching budget for the most flexibility.
